Italy Weather

Although largely temperate, Italy weather is also renewed by the marked variations experienced in different regions of the country. During the summer season, weather in the Northern parts of Italy is typically warm, rainfalls occasionally punctuating its normal patterns. Meanwhile, humidity is at such levels it actually stifles the central region of the country, the dry heat scorching its southern parts.

Milan, Turin and Venice experience cold, damp and occasionally foggy winters, in Tuscany temperatures during the same season hover around the freezing point, while in the south of the country Italy weather follows Mediterranean patterns, thus more pleasant temperatures that average 50-60°F (10-20°C).

If visiting Italy rates highly in your “to-do list”, then consider doing so during either the spring or the autumn season. While most people plan their vacation around June and August, the weather is a lot more pleasant and comfortable during spring and fall, with the added bonus that historical monuments and the country’s other numerous attractions are not packed to the brim with snap-happy tourists. However, if you insist on a summer vacation, you should be aware that although between June and September Italy’s waters are at their absolute finest and most favorable for swimming, a lot of the shops and restaurants are also on vacation during the same period.

Italy is also particularly attractive to ski enthusiasts: the ski season in the country runs between December and April. Trekkers that fancy exploring the Alps mountain range, the area is most welcoming between June and September.
